STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 97 TO BE ANSWERED ON 26.07.2021 ASKED BY SHRI DHARAMBIR SINGH AND SHRI SANGANNA AMARAPPA REGARDING “ESI HOSPITALS”
(a) to (d) There are 160 hospitals under the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme, of which 50 hospitals are run by the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Corporation and 110 by the ESI Directorate of respective State Governments. The State/UT wise details are placed at Annexure-I.
Setting up of new ESI hospitals is a continuous and ongoing process. The ESI Corporation has given approval for setting up of 50 new ESI hospitals. The State/UT wise details of these hospitals are placed at Annexure-II.
The existing norms for setting up of a new ESI hospital are as under:

8. 500 bedded hospital 4,00,000
9. 600 bedded hospital 5,00,000
The Insured Person (IP) population is taken in a radius of 25 kms. and there should not be any other ESI hospital within a radius of 50 kms
.
The ESI Corporation has also approved setting up of 30 bedded ESI hospital to provide certain medical care services in areas with minimum 20000 IPs in a plain area and 15000 IPs in North eastern region/ hilly area.
The present IP population in Charkhi Dadri, Mahendragarh and Nuh districts of Haryana and Koppal district of Karnataka is 4084, 3555, 2314 and 16,144, respectively.
