Question : UPGRADATION OF VISAKHAPATNAM AIRPORT



(a) whether there is any proposal to develop an International Airport Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh for the development of tourism and promotion of industries;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a), (b) & (c) :- There is no proposal, at present, to set up an international airport at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. However, the airport at Visakhapatnam is being developed at an approximate cost of Rs.105 crores excluding the cost of land. It has been proposed to construct a new runway of dimension 10,000 ft. X 150 ft. suitable for operation of Medium Capacity Long Range (MCLR) category of aircraft at Visakhapatnam airport. There are also proposals for construction of new apron, link taxiway; installation of navigational aids and Ground Lighting facilities for all weather operation, provision of boundary wall, perimeter road, sub-fire station, approach road etc. and construction of a new integrated terminal building to handle domestic as well as international passengers.
