(a) & (b) In May 2015, Govt. of India launched, Namami Gange Programme is an integrated umbrella programme to ensure effective abatement of pollution and conservation of river Ganga by adopting a river basin approach for comprehensive planning and management. The Ganga river basin area falls in 11 States of the country including Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Under Namami Gange Programme, diverse set of interventions for cleaning and rejuvenation of river Ganga have been taken up. These include pollution abatement activities including sewage, industrial effluent, Solid Waste etc., River Front Management, Aviral Dhara, Rural Sanitation, Afforestation, Biodiversity Conservation, Public Participation etc.
Under Namami Gange Programme, Government of India is supplementing the efforts of the State Governments under river Ganga basin, including Rajasthan & Uttar Pradesh, in addressing the challenges of pollution of river Ganga & its tributaries by providing financial and technical assistance.
(c) In Uttar Pradesh 50 sewerage projects at the cost of Rs. 10,287.36 crore for creation of 1299.39 MLD sewage treatment capacity while in Rajasthan one sewerage project at the cost of Rs. 181.05 crore for creation of 36 MLD sewage treatment capacity have been taken up under Namami Gange Programme.

In addition, following specific measures have been taken for abatement of industrial pollution in Ganga:-
(i) Sector specific Charters have been implemented in Pulp & Paper, Sugar, Textile and Distillery sectors.
(ii) Facilitation of industries to adopt sector specific clean technology/waste minimization practices in Sugar, Distillery, Pulp & Paper and Textile sectors.
(iii) Inventorisation of Grossly Polluting Industries (GPIs) along Ganga with 100% annual inspection thereof by independent institutions of repute and action on non-complying industries have led to improvement in compliance.
With respect to industrial effluents, consent management for compliance of standards is being enforced by SPCBs/PCCs to improve the water quality of the rivers.
(iv) 20 MLD Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) project for Jajmau tannery cluster at Kanpur has been taken up.
(d) to (f) As per CPCB, State-wise and Priority-wise polluted river stretches report dated September, 2018, there are two polluted stretches in Rajasthan and 12 polluted stretches in Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh Government has prepared action plan for rejuvenation for these rivers and have uploaded the same on the website of Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB).
The Uttar Pradesh State has constituted State Level Committee “River Rejuvenation Committee” under the Chairmanship of Agriculture Production Commissioner, U.P. The State has also constituted District Environment Committee for regular monitoring at district level. The state has formulated a three tier monitoring mechanism.
The rejuvenation and conservation of rivers involves multiple stakeholders. The Urban Development Department is to ensure setting up of sewage treatment plants and safe disposal of solid waste. Likewise, Irrigation Department monitors the maintenance of environmental flow in the river.
The Water Resources Department of Rajasthan has informed that no scheme regarding keeping the rivers pollution free is being implemented. NMCG has sanctioned two STP projects at Kota, Rajasthan.
