(a) to (c) National River Conservation Directorate (NRCD) has been supplementing the efforts of the State Governments in abatement of pollution of identified polluted stretches of rivers under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National River Conservation Plan (NRCP) on cost sharing basis between Central Government and respective State Governments. No proposal regarding Palar river pollution abatement project has been received under NRCP from Government of Karnataka. However, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu State Pollution Control Board is regularly monitoring water quality of river Palar at one location under the National Water Quality Monitoring Programme (NWMP).

Project proposals are received from the State Governments from time to time for taking up pollution abatement works in towns along various rivers, and are considered for financial assistance under the NRCP subject to their conformity with the scheme guidelines, pollution status, prioritization, appraisal by independent institutions and availability of funds.
