Question : National Highways in Odisha

(a) the length of National Highways (NHs) taken up for construction in the State of Odisha out of the 25,000 km as proposed in the Union Budget;

(b) the length of new NHs that would pass through the rural areas of the State particularly Keonjhar district; and

(c) the time frame set for completion of these new NHs?

(a) Construction/ Development of 2168 km length of National Highways (NHs) is in progress in the State of Odisha and 256.24 km length of NHs have been sanctioned for construction/development during 2021-22. Also, construction/development of 897 km of NHs have been proposed for sanction during 2022-23 in the State of Odisha.
(b) Most of the NHs in the State pass through rural areas. Presently, NH-20, NH-49, NH-220, NH-520 and NH-720 having total length of 381 km pass through the district of Keonjhar.
(c) Development and upgradation of National Highways is a continuous process. The status of development of NHs passing through the district of Keonjhar is given below:

NH-20 JH/OD Border to Rimuli - Strengthening work in progress.
Rimuli – Panikoili section – 4-lane completed in 142km
NH-220 2-laning with paved shoulder work completed except Patna bypass and Karanjia bypass. Bridge over river Simuli and Baitarani on Patna bypass have been sanctioned by Ministry and is under bidding stage. Widening to 2-lane & strengthening of Patna bypass and Karanjia bypass have been included in Annual Plan 2022-23 of Odisha.
NH-520 4-lane completed in 43 km
NH-49 4-lane completed in 93 km
NH-720 Presently 77 km is of 2-lane standard, DPR is in progress for 4-laning
