Question : HOSTELS FOR WORKING WOMEN

:

(a) the number of hostels for working women being run by the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), category and State/ UT-wise;

(b) whether provision of day care centres for infants has been made in each such hostel and if so, the details thereof, State/ UT-wise;

(c) the number of proposals received and sanctioned by Government for construction of working women hostels in different parts of the country during each of the last three years and the current year, State/ UT-wise;

(d) the funds sanctioned, released and utilised by the State/ UTs during the said period?

(a) & (b): Since the inception of the scheme in 1972, 911 working women hostels (WWH) have been sanctioned in the country which include 603 hostels for Non-Government Organisations. As per the scheme which was revised in 2010, provision of a day care centre for children is mandatory. A statement giving State/ UT wise number of hostels and day care centres, sanctioned, category wise is at Annex-I.

(c) During the last three years and the current financial year, 65 new proposals have been received for construction of working women hostel under the Scheme and 23 new hostels have been sanctioned as per details given at Annex-II.

(d) Details of funds released, State/ UTs wise, during the last three years and the current financial year are at Annex-III.
