Question : Hostels for Migrant Women Labourers

(a) whether the Government proposes to set up hostels for migrant women labourers engaged in low wage occupations in urban centres;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government has received proposals/ representations in this regard; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and the response of the Government thereto?

(a) to (d) No Madam. Ministry of Women and Child Development is not implementing any scheme relating to “Hostels for migrant women labourers”. However, the Ministry is implementing Scheme of “Working Women Hostel”. Under the Scheme of Working Women Hostel, safe and affordable accommodation is provided to the working women, who may be single, widowed, divorced, separated, married but whose husband or immediate family does not reside in the same city/ area and their gross income does not exceed Rs. 50,000/- consolidated (gross) per month in metropolitan cities, or Rs. 35,000/- in any other place.
