(a) whether the pipelines planned to link the Krishna Godavari basin with Southern States are yet to be laid;

(b) if so, the reasons for the delay in laying these pipelines; and

(c) the steps taken by the Government to ensure balanced supply of natural gas from this block to various parts of the country?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 200 TO BE ANSWERED ON 16-07-2009 BY SHRI T. R. BALLU, MP REGARDING GAS PIPELINE FROM KRISHNA GODAVARI BASIN.

(a) & (b): In order to source gas from KG basin to Southern States, Government has issued authorization to lay Vijaywada-Nellore-Chennai, Chennai-Bangalore-Mangalore & Chennai- Tuticorin pipelines. Government has appointed Competent Authorities under Petroleum and Minerals Pipelines (Acquisition of Right of User in Land) Act, 1962 for acquisition of Right of User (RoU) for laying these pipelines. As informed by the concerned Company, route for the entire length has been finalized and reconnaissance survey has been completed. Further, for Vijaywada-Nellore-Chennai pipeline, detailed route survey has also been completed and notification under Section 3(1) of the Petroleum and Minerals Pipelines (Acquisition of Right of User in Land) Act, 1962 has been issued.

(c): In order to ensure balance supply of natural gas to various parts of the country, Kakinada- Hyderabad-Uran-Ahmedabad pipeline (1385 km) has been commissioned this year. In addition to the above, Government has also issued authorizations to lay Kakinada- Basudebpur-Haldia and Haldia-Jagdishpur pipelines. Further, in order to promote investment from public as well as private sector for laying inter alia trunk natural gas pipelines throughout the country, the Government of India has enacted ‘The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board Act, 2006’.
