Question : SPECIAL EXCISE CONCESSION ON TOBACCO



(a) whether the Union Government has given any kind of excise concessions on the sale of chewing tobacco in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to extend such concessions to other tobacco products;and

(d) if not, the reasons therefor?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE(SHRI S.S. PALANIMANICKAM)

(a) : No, Sir. No excise duty concessions have been given by the Government on the sale of chewing tobacco in the country. However the general Small Scale Industry exemption is available to manufacturers of unbranded chewing tobacco.

(b) : Does not arise in view of (a) above.

(c) : There is no such proposal under consideration of the Government.

(d) : Does not arise in view of (c) above.
