(a) whether there is any proposal to open engineering colleges during the Ninth Five Year Plan;
(b) if so, the number of such colleges proposed to be
opened, location-wise, State-wise; and
(c) the measures being taken by the Government for the
development of IITs?

(a) to (b): There is, at present, no proposal to
open engineering colleges during the Ninth Five year
Plan by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
(c) : Apart from providing financial support for
the normal developmental activities, several measures
have been taken for development of Indian Institutes of
Technology (IITs) like, introduction of ‘Block Gant
Scheme’, providing financial support under the schemes
of Modernisation & Removal of obsolescence, Research &
Development, and thrust Areas in Technical Education.
