Question : Central Universities Act

(a) whether the Government has given approval for making amendments in the Central Universities
Act, 2009 to set up a Central Tribal University in Andhra Pradesh at present;
(b) if so, the details of and the amendment made in the Central Universities Act, 2009;
(c) the number of Central Tribal Universities functioning in the country, at present, State-wise; and
(d) the number of tribes who have got education in Central Tribal Universities during the last three
years and the current year?

(a) to (d) The Cabinet has given approval for setting up of a Central Tribal University by the name
of Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh in Vizianagaram District of Andhra Pradesh and for
that purpose introduction of a Bill in the Parliament, namely, the Central Universities (Amendment),
Bill, 2018. The Bill has been introduced in the Lok Sabha on 14.12.2018. A Central Tribal University
i.e. Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak is functioning in state of Madhya Pradesh.
The number of tribal students enrolled in this Central University during the last three and current
years are as under:-
