(a) & (b) The Centrally sponsored scheme “Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA)” to enhance access to secondary education and to improve its quality was launched in March, 2009 and hence there was no target during the last three years. For 11th Five Year Plan, the physical targets under this scheme include opening of about 11000 new secondary schools and strengthening of 44000 existing secondary schools. For the year 2009-10, there is a plan provision of Rs.550 crore (Revised Estimate). As on date, annual plan proposals received from 31 States/UTs have been appraised for setting up of more than 2000 new schools and strengthening of more than 6500 existing schools. During 2009-10, an amount of Rs.510.69 crore has been sanctioned and an amount of Rs.216.11 crore has been released to the States. The State-wise details are annexed.
