THE MINISTER OF STATE (I/C) FOR NEW & RENEWABLE ENERGY, POWER and MoS for SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP
(SHRI R.K. SINGH)
(a)to(d) Yes, Sir. Electrolysis of water is one of the pathways to produce hydrogen, which is an energy carrier.
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has been supporting Research and Development (R&D) and demonstration projects for hydrogen production through electrolysis of water. Under projects supported by the Ministry, a 5 Nm3/hr (normal cubic meter per hour) electrolyser powered by solar energy has been installed at National Institute of Solar Energy, Gurugram; and a 30 Nm3/hr electrolyser powered by grid electricity has been installed at Indian Oil R&D Centre, Faridabad. The hydrogen generated from these projects has been used as fuel in vehicles.
Department of Science and Technology has also been supporting R&D on different aspects of hydrogen energy, including its production and utilization.
