Question : Benefits of Soil Health Card Scheme

(a) whether the Soil Health Card Scheme being implemented by the Government has led to savings in nitrogen fertilizer like urea;
(b) If so, the details thereof; and
(c) If not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (c): Soil Health Card (SHC) Scheme has been implemented since 2015-16 to promote soil test based balanced and integrated use of chemical fertilizers in conjunction with organic and biofertilisers.
Consumption of urea depends on a number of factors like cropping pattern, cropped area, availability of irrigation, soil fertility status & recommended dose of fertilizers as per soil health card etc. The consumption of urea has been reduced from 155.81 kg per hectare in 2015-16 to 152.53 kg per hectare in 2019-20. Decreasing trend in per hectare consumption of Urea has also been observed in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Jharkhand, Odisha, Puducherry, Tamilnadu, Telangana, Uttarakhand from 2015-16 to 2019-20 (As per DES and state data).
