(a) & (b): The Government of Kerala has submitted a proposal seeking financial assistance for development of traditional industries of Kerala. This proposal seeks Central assistance of Rs.17.64 crore for development of the coir industry in Kerala during 2004-2005. The item- wise details of this proposal are given below:

In his Budget Speech 2004-05, the Finance Minister has announced the establishment of a Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries. The Ministry of Agro and Rural Industries of the Central Government has been assigned the nodal role in firming up the modalities of operationalising this Fund. The Central Government has approved a scheme titled the “Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries” (SFURTI) at a total cost of Rs. 97.25 crore. This Scheme is for development of a total of 100 clusters in the khadi, coir and village industries (including pottery) over five years beginning 2005-06. The Ministry of Agro and Rural Industries (ARI) its organizations/institutions, State Governments, their organizations concerned, non-Governmental organizations, etc., constitute implementing/monitoring agencies for the Scheme. Further under the Industrial Infrastructure Up-gradation Scheme Coir Cluster-Alappuzha has been approved and Rs. 14.20 crore released. Ayurvedic Cluster Thrissur, Kerala has also been approved and funds will be released after the concurrence of enhancement of funds for IIUS by the Planning Commission.
