Question : IMPORT OF BANNED ITEMS



(a) the items which have been banned for import into India;

(b) whether the Government have permitted import of some of these banned items into India for special reasons during the last three years;

(c) if so, the details of such items alongwith reasons therefor;

(d) whether the Government have analysed the scheme for import under special reasons;

(e) whether the Government have received any complaints against such imported items; and

(f) if so, the details thereof?

(a) The names of the items prohibited for import are available in the ITC(HS) Classification of Export and Import items. Copies of the ITC (HS) Classification of Export and Import items are available in the Parliament Library.

(b) to (f) : Requests for grant of import licence for import of Wild Life Trophies have been considered by the Restricted Import Licensing Committee/Export Facilitation Committee (an Inter-Ministerial Committee consisting of representatives from various Ministries/Departments) in its various meetings during the period April 1999 till March 2002 and on its recommendations, based on written recommendations of the Ministry of Environment and Forest, clearance from the Chief Wild Life Warden of the state, the NOC from the High Commission of the exporting country, permission has been granted to 7 applicants for import of 68 pieces of Wild Life Trophies. No complaints have been received in respect of these permissions.
