Question : IMPLEMENTATION OF PMGSY IN JHARKHAND



(a) the target of road to be constructed in Jharkhand under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana during the last three years;

(b) whether there was any plan in the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana to connect the far- flung and remote villages with the main highways;

(c) if so, the details thereof and the time by when the scheme will be completed; and

(d) the details of district-wise and road-wise expenditure under the scheme ?

(a) The number of road works cleared under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in respect of Jharkhand for the years 2000-01 to 2003-04 is 501.

(b) & (c) The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana seeks to connect all Unconnected habitations in the rural areas with a population of more than 500 persons, through good All-weather roads, by the end of the Tenth Plan period. In respect of the Hill States (North-East, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttaranchal), Desert Areas and Tribal (Schedule-V) areas, the objective is to connect Habitations with a population of 250 persons and above. Progress under the Yojana is related to the budget allocation, which is decided on a year-to-year basis.

(d) The Ministry of Rural Development does not maintain district level data on the roads taken up / constructed under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. Funds are released to the States Phase-wise. Details of the funds released to Jharkhand till date and the utilisation reported by the State are as under: -

In addition, 131 road works were cleared in 2003-04, for which implementational steps are to be taken by the State Government.
