(a) the number of people engaged in fisheries, aquaculture and its allied activities, State-wise;
(b) the details of production, export and domestic consumption of aqua products in the last five years and the current year, year-wise and State-wise; and
(c) whether the Government is trying to consolidate India’s second position in the production of aqua products and planning to become the highest producer of aqua products in the world through various policy interventions?
(a) As per the 17th Livestock Census, 2003, the state wise details of total number of people engaged in fisheries, aquaculture and its allied activities are furnished at Annexure –I.
(b) The details of production and export, State-wise & year-wise, during last five years are given at Annexure-II & III. Further, the domestic consumption of aqua products as per details of the information received from Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation is at Annexure-IV.
(c) The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has been implementing the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) on Blue Revolution: Integrated Development and Management of Fisheries for integrated and holistic development and management of fisheries in the country, with an outlay of Rs.3000 crore. To address the Infrastructure requirements in Fisheries sector, Department of Fisheries is implementing Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund with corpus fund of Rs.7522 crore. These schemes are primarily aimed at enhancement of fish production in the country.
