Question : KATWA THERMAL POWER PROJECT



(a) the present status of the Katwa Thermal Power Project of National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) in West Bengal;

(b) the details of the funds allocated for the said Project and the utilisation thereof;

(c) whether the land acquired for setting up of this project is adequate or there are proposals of NTPC to acquire some more land; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d) : The Katwa Project being implemented by NTPC has a proposed capacity of 1320 MW. NTPC had applied for coal linkage for the project on 4.3.2011. The total land required is about 700 acres out of which 556 acres of land has been acquired by West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd. NTPC has requested the Government of West Bengal for acquisition of balance land for ash pond, railway corridor and make up water pump house at Bhagirathi river end. No capital expenditure has been made so far on construction.
