Question : Mekedatu Project

(a) whether the State Government of Karnataka has submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Central Water Commission (CWC) for final clearance for the Mekedatu Drinking Water and Hydroelectric Project in the Cauvery Basin;

(b) if so, the details thereof including the total cost of the proposed project; and

(c) the action taken by the Government thereon and the time by which clearance is likely to be accorded?

(a) & (b) Regional Office of Central Water Commission (CWC) at Bengaluru received a report namely Detailed Project Report (DPR) of “Mekedatu Balancing Reservoir cum Drinking Water Project” from Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited (CNNL) of Government of Karnataka on 07.06.2017. The proposed project was for drinking water cum power generation with an estimated cost of Rs. 5912 crore.

(c) As the detailed information required for a DPR was not included in the report, it was examined in CWC considering it as a Pre-Feasibility Report and was returned by CWC to Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited, Bengaluru on 07.07.2017 with observations/ comments.
