Question : DIGITISATION OF LIBRARIES



(a) whether the Government proposes to modernize and interlink all the National Central Libraries in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the funds allocated for the purpose;

(c) whether the Government has any proposal to digitize all the contents of the libraries online for public;

(d) if so, the details thereof and the time by which it is likely to be online;

(e) whether the Government has signed an agreement with other countries/foreign institutions to expand the contents by increasing the collections of books from across the world; and

(f) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) & (b) Yes, Madam. Under the National Mission on Libraries, the Government proposes to modernise the six Central Libraries. However, there is no proposal to interlink these libraries. Rs.724.20 Lakhs have been allocated for each of the six libraries for this purpose.
