STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO LOK SABHA STARRRED QUESTION NO. 59 FOR 23-11-2009 REGARDING INVESTMENT IN E-GOVERNANCE PROJECTS.

(a) and (b) : The Government has approved the National E- Governance Plan in May 2006 with the vision of providing all Government services to the common man in his locality in an efficient, reliable and transparent manner. The National e- Governance Plan envisages delivery of government services through 27 Mission Mode Projects across various Central Government Departments and Ministries and State Governments. This entails creation of e-infrastructure which inter-alia includes State Wide Area Networks (SWANs), State Data Centres (SDCs) and one lakh Common Services Centres (CSCs) across the country. The Government has approved an investment of Rs.10,699.20 crores for this infrastructure (SWAN - Rs.3334 crores, SDC - Rs.1623.20 crores and CSCs - Rs.5742 crores). As far as investments for Mission Mode Projects is concerned, the financial outlays are made by the respective Ministries or Departments in their budget as and when the schemes are approved by the competent authorities.
