CATEGORISATION OF CASTES

Will the Minister of SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EMPOWERMENT be pleased to state:
(a) the steps being taken by the Government for categorization of some castes including Scheduled Castes (SCs) in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh; and
(b) the progress made along with report submitted in this regard and the action taken thereon, caste-wise during the last five years?

(a) & (b): 11 Proposals for OBCs and 1 proposal for SCs from the state of Andhra Pradesh and 88 proposals for OBCs and 1 proposal for SCs from the state of Telangana were received.
11 castes/sub-castes/ synonyms of Andhra Pradesh and 87 castes of Telangana have been included in the Central Lists of OBCs vide Gazette Notification dated 11.08.2016. Proposal of 1 caste of Telangana has been referred to National Commission for Backward Classes for advice.
Proposal of Beda (Budaga) Jangam community of Andhra Pradesh for inclusion in the list of SCs has been referred back to the State Government with a request to submit a complete proposal along with ethnographic details.
The proposal of Are Katika , Katika community of Telangana was processed as per laid down procedure. As the Office of the Registrar General of India (ORGI) did not support the same even on a second reference, accordingly the same has been rejected with the approval of competent authority.
