Question : Road Safety in the School Curriculum

(a) whether the Government is contemplating to include a subject on road safety in the school curriculum to make the children aware about road accidents;

(b) if so, the time by which it is likely to be included in the courses of school, State-wise including Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh;

(c) whether any other road safety awareness programme is also being carried out by Media/NGOs/Corporate house, if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the Government proposes to open trauma centres in every district of the country to provide emergency treatment to people who meet road accident, if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) No such proposal is under consideration of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.

(b) Does not arise.

(c) Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has been undertaking various publicity measures for creating road safety awareness in the form of telecasting / broadcasting of T.V. spots/ Radio jingles, display of cinema slides, hoardings, organizing Road Safety Week, seminars, exhibitions, etc.

(d) & (e) Ministry of Health & Family Welfare is implementing the scheme “Capacity building for establishing trauma care facilities in Govt. Hospitals on National Highways”. The existing Government hospitals / Medical Colleges are identified in the vicinity of National / State Highways for up-gradation of trauma care facilities by providing grants towards civil work/equipment, manpower & communications. Besides, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has inserted a provision in Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill, 2018 which inter-alia envisage the creation of Motor Vehicle Accident Fund and implementation of Cashless Treatment Scheme during Golden Hour.
