(b) if so, whether the Government are making efforts to cater to the increasing need of electricity in Madhya Pradesh; and

(a) : BIS earthquake Code IS:1893-1984 divides the country into five seismic zones. Zone I is least earthquake prone while Zone V is most earthquake prone. As per the BIS code, Chambal Valley falls in Zones I & II. The Narmada and Tapti Valleys lie mostly in Zone III while some portion of these valleys fall in Zone I&II.

(b) & (c) : Madhya Pradesh has been allocated 1116 MW from Central Sector power stations in the Western Region. Besides the firm allocation, MP has also been allocated 246 MW from the unallocated quota of Central Sector stations in the Western Region and also 250-300 MW from the unallocated quota of Central Sector stations in the Eastern Region. Other measures taken to improve the availability of power in Madhya Pradesh include
(i) maximizing the generation from the existing capacity
(ii) Renovation & Modernisation and uprating of existing old power plants
(iii) reduction in T&D losses

(iv) capacity addition, etc.
