Question : ASSISTANCE TO NGOS



(a) the number of Institutions run by Non-Governmental Organisations in the country, State-wise;

(b) the amount of assistance given to each of Non-Governmental Organisations during the last three years;

(c) the number of Non-Governmental Organisations out of it misutilised the said assistance;

(d) the details of the action taken or proposed to be taken against the NGOs found guilty in this connection, State-wise; and

(e) the details of such NGOs put in black listed, State-wise?

(a) & (b): Central Government provides financial assistance to the eligible Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) under various schemes through different Ministries/Departments/Autonomous Organisations. The details of such grants spread over various Ministries/Departments/ Autonomous Organisations are not maintained centrally. However, details of grant of Rs. one lakh and above to the eligible NGOs are normally contained in the Annual Reports of the Ministries/Departments/ Autonomous Organisations.

(c) to (e): Schemes generally have in-built mechanism for post- sanction monitoring. Periodic inspection visits are also conducted by the officers of the Ministry. Suitable action is taken against NGOs found misutilising the funds. A Task Force has also been constituted to monitor the utilisation of funds.
