Question : METRO RAIL PROJECTS



(a) whether the Union Government has received any proposals from the State Governments for construction of Metro Rail in the States;

(b) if so, the details thereof including the estimated cost of the proposals and funding pattern alongwith the difference in the opinion of the Ministry vis-à-vis the Planning Commission, if any, and

(c) the details of proposals approved and rejected alongwith the reasons for rejection of proposals?

(a) and (b): Yes, Madam. Union Government has been receiving proposals from various Governments and approving the same after due process. The proposals not approved so far are at Annexure-I. The final approval for the project requires a number of approvals at various levels involving inter ministerial consultations with various ministries including Planning Commission, tying up of funding arrangements etc. Taking opinions/comments of different Ministries is part of the established mechanism of inter-ministerial consultation process before approving a project.

(c): The details of proposals approved are given as per Annexure-II. The Central Government has not rejected any proposal so far.
