Question : WATER POLLUTION IN RAJASTHAN



(a) whether the Bandi river and Nehda dam located in Pali district of Rajasthan which are the main source of drinking water are getting polluted;

(b) if so, whether the Government has received any proposal with regard to saving the Bandi river and Nehda dam from getting polluted; and

(c) if so, the steps being contemplated by the Government in this regard?

(a) Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) have informed that river Bandi along Pali district of Rajasthan does appear in the list of 150 polluted river stretches identified by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), and has been assigned Priority II by CPCB. Nehda dam does not appear in this list of 150 polluted river stretches by CPCB.

(b) No proposal for rejuvenating river Bandi or cleaning of Nehda Dam has been reported to have been received by MoEF.

(c) MoEF have informed that pollution abatement of rivers is to be undertaken by the State Government/ local bodies concerned, as per their priorities. The role of the Central Government is promotional and to supplement the efforts of the State Govt. concerned.
