MODAK, SHRI BIJOY, A.M.E.E. [C.P.I. (M)—West Bengal, Azambagh, 1980] s. of late Shri Binoy Krishna Modak; b. at Hooghly, June 6, 1906; ed. at Jadavpore College of Engineering and Technology; Unmarried; Political and Social Worker; joined the Non-Cooperation Movement in 1921 while at school; was a member of Juganter Party (a revolutionary party of Bengal) since then twice imprisoned during Civil Disobedience Movement in 1930-32; Detained in Camp till 1939 for revolutionary activities; joined the Communist Party in 1934 while in detention; Member, West Bengal Krishak Council, 1964-71; President, (i) Hooghly District United Refugee Council, 1952-71: (ii) Hooghly District Krishak Sabha, 1964-71 and (iii) Hooghly United Khet Mazdoor Samiti, 1964-71; Member, West Bengal Legislative Assembly, 1957-62; Member, (i) Fourth Lok Sabha, 1967-70 (ii) Filth Lok Sabha, 1971-77 and (iii) Sixth Lok Sabha, 1977-79; attended the 28th Inter-Parliamentary Conference at The Hague, (Netherlands) in 1970.
