KALYANASUNDARAM, SHRI M., CPI (Tamil Nadu—Tiruchirappalli—1977): s. of late Shri Meenakshi Sundara Mudaliar; b. at kadambarkoil, Tiruchirappalli District, October 20, 1909, passed S.S.L.C; m. Smt. K. Logambal, June, 1933; political Worker; was in Railway service of the former (British) South Indian Railway upto 1940; previously associated with Congress upto 1946; participated in freedom struggle; jailed several times; victimised for participation in freedom struggle; awarded Tamra Patra; Secretary, Communist Party of India, Tamil Nadu State Unit, from 1967; Vice-President, All India Railwaymen's Federation, 1943—48; Member, Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, 1952—67 and Fifth Lok Sabha, 1971—77. Social activities: Associated with All India Trade Union Congress and various other trade unions for the economic and social uplift of the weaker sections of the society, particularly, the workers, the peasants and the agricultural labourers.
