JAGGAIAH, SHRI K., B.A., Cong., (Andhra Pradesh— Ongole—1967): s. of Shri Sitaramaiah; b. at Morampudi, Distt. Guntur, December 31, 1926: ed. at Andhra Christian College, Guntur; m. Shrimati K. Seshu. 1947; 2 s. and 2 d.; Film Actor and Producer and one of the topmost stars of the Telugu screen; worked as a sub-editor of the Telugu daily "Desabhimani" and all editor of the English, weekly. "The Andhra Republic"; worked as a teacher in the High School at Duggirala, his hometown, for some time; worked in the All India Radio, New Delhi, as language sub-editor in the News Services Division; resigned from All India Radio and joined films; has acted in nearly 100 films so far; mostly in Telugu and two or three in Tamil (some of the films in which he has acted have won the Rashtrapati Awards as well as the Andhra Pradesh State Film Awards); produced a film entitled "Padandi Munduku" in 1962, the first political film in Telugu depicting the Civil Disobedience Movement which won laurels at home and abroad and cash award of Rs. 50,000 from the Government of Andhra Pradesh; previously associated with the Praja Socialist Party; joined the Indian National Congress in 1957; Chairman, Cultural Sub-Committee of the A.I.C.C. Session held at Guntur in 1964; Member of the Pradesh Congress Committee for the last four years. Social activities: Associated with constructive programmes like Library Movement and Harijan Uplift from an early age; active worker in Youth and Student Movements during his student days; took keen interest in political, literary and theatrical activities. Hobby: Reading and writing. Accomplishments in letters and arts: A prominent actor on the stage; accomplished in painting which he learned under the great master of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Adivi Bapiraju. Publications: Wrote several poems, plays and essays in Telugu for various journals and the All India Radio; also translated many of the important works of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.
