Cultivator; was Member of the Minority Sub-Committee and the Tribal Sub-Committee of the Constituent Assembly; Member, Assam Legislative Assembly, 1937—1967; Minister, Government of Assam, 1938 to 1967. Social activities: Worked for the social and economic uplift of the plains Tribal people since student days; associated with many social and cultural institutions such as Ram Krishna Mission, Buddhist Association; Hindu Mission and Sankardev Cultural Association, etc. Favourite pastime and recreation: Fishing and swimming.
