No Human case of Avian Influenza

As on date there is no human case of Avian Influenza. The situation is being closely monitored and  is under control

  Maharashtra

 

q       The Rapid Response teams of Health Ministry are in the field along with the State teams carrying out house to house active surveillance to identify suspected cases among contacts of infected poultry. As on 23.2.2006 in the Navapur town a population of 30,612 has been surveyed. 19,687 population in 19 villages within 3 Kms radius have been screened. 66 persons suffering from Upper Respiratory Tract Infection have been detected (and under surveillance). Only one had  history of contact with poultry. This case is in hospital under observation. 

 

q       In addition, 92 farm workers in the affected poultry farms and 90 poultry workers in unaffected farms are under surveillance and all are asymptomatic.

 

q       Health status of cullers are being monitored. One of the cullers is under observation in hospital [for URI] and all others are asymptomatic.

 

q       As on February 23, 2006 there are 14 persons (10 males; 4 females [6 children 8 adults]) of Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URI) [who have history of poultry deaths in their back-yard farm/contact with infected poultry] under observation in Navapur Sub-district hospital.  All these persons are afebrile but under constant observation. The two additional cases admitted for observation are a culler,  55 year old male,  and a 60 year old male from Pangran village. X-ray of both these patients are normal.   

 

q       The OPD attendance of the hospital has also reduced considerably. Yesterday, 237 persons attended the OPD. 24 URI cases were detected, but had no history of contact with infected poultry. Two cases with URI and contact has been admitted as mentioned above. 

 

q       Health Ministry has supplied adequate quantity of Tamiflu and personal protective equipments.

 

 

Gujarat

 

q       The Rapid Response teams of Health Ministry and state teams are in the field along with the State teams carrying out house to house active surveillance to identify suspected cases among contacts of infected poultry. Yesterday the teams have covered a population of 17,106 of which 39 had fever and 12 URI with fever. 1808 persons working in affected back-yard poultries were screened of which 48 had URI and they were kept under surveillance.

 

q       In addition, 19 poultry workers including cullers, 5 had URI and their health status is being monitored.

 

q       The Vyara Community Health Centre has 10 cases of URI under observation. Initially they had mild fever but now afebrile except for the case admitted yesterday. X-ray of all these  patients are normal and none of them have Pneumonia.

 

q       Two journalists who had gone to Navapur and complaining of cough and sore throat has been admitted to Sterling Hospital, in Ahmedabad and are under observation. Both of them are afebrile and Chest X-ray normal.  

 

q       5000 Tamiflu capsules has been airlifted on 23.2.2006.

 

Other relevant information :

 

q       95 clinical samples (from contacts and URI cases) sent to National Institute of Virology, Pune and National Institute of Communicable Diseases, Delhi being tested as per protocol. 94 samples have been negative and one sample is still under process.

 

q       49,000 courses of Tamiflu and 2000 PPE sets are in stock. Additional orders have been placed for 20,000 courses and 10,000 PPE sets.

 

q       Round the clock control room is functioning from EMR Division [Tel.No.23061302; FAX.23061457] and from National Institute of Communicable Diseases, 22, Sham Nath Marg [Tel.No.23921401; FAX: 23913028].
