Government of Jharkhand and TCIL enter into agreement for e-Governance Project

The Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL) and the Government of Jharkhand have entered into an agreement for the implementation of Jharkhand’s prestigious state-wide information and communication network called “JharNet”. The agreement was signed by Shri G.D. Gaiha, Chairman-cum-Managing Director on behalf of TCIL and Shri R.S. Sharma, Secretary, Information Technology on behalf of the Government of Jharkhand, here today. The Ministers of State for Communications and Information Technology, Shri Ashok Pradhan and Shri Su. Thirunavukkarasar and the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Shri Arjun Munda were present on the occasion.

The “JharNet” project, which is estimated to cost Rs.27 crore, aims at providing voice, data and video-communication services linking the State Capital at Ranchi with district headquarters, sub-divisional headquarters and block headquarters with provision to connect panchayats later on. The project would ensure state-of-the-art, cost-effective and high bandwidth connectivity for multi-media communication and other critical applications to Government at all levels with high reliability. The project, envisaged to be executed in a period of 15 months, would thus bring Jharkhand into the rank of States which would have achieved e-Governance.

Jharkhand has selected TCIL for support in implementation of this critical project for its field proven experience in implementing successfully the e-Governance project in Gujarat, which has provided high bandwidth connectivity between the State Capital at Gandhinagar with its 25 districts and 205 taluk level headquarters. State Governments of Karnataka, Tripura, etc. are having talks with TCIL for implementation of similar projects.

TCIL specialises in undertaking turnkey and consultancy projects in hi-tech communication and IT fields. Its main operations are in the Middle East and Africa, but they also undertake prestigious projects of wide public utility in India for Government and public and private sector clients.
