The Union Cabinet today gave its ex-post-facto approval for further extension of the tenure of the Justice Nanavati commission of Inquiry set-up to inquire into the 1984 anti-sikh riots which broke out in the National Capital Territory of Delhi and other parts of the country following the assassination of Smt. Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister, upto February 9, 2005. The extended tenure of the Commission expired on January 31, 2005. Justice Nanavati had informed the Ministry of Home Affairs that although the Report was ready by January 31, 2005, its presentation to the Home Minister could be arranged only on the February 9, 2005.
