Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY ( SHRI RAJIV PRATAP RUDY )

(a) The number of consumer goods is quite large. The data on export & import of all items including consumer goods are published in the publication entitled `Monthly Statistics of Foreign Trade of India Vol. I & Vol. II brought out by Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics, Kolkata, copies of which are available in the Parliament Library also.

(b) There has been no spurt in imports into the country even after removal of quantitative restrictions. However the Government is constantly monitoring the situation and taking remedial measures so that imports do not cause any serious injury to the domestic economy.
