Question : CONVICTION IN SIKH RIOT CASES



(a) the details of the persons killed during the anti-sikh riots in 1984;

(b) the number of cases registered and the conviction rate achieved therein; and

(c) the number of cases pending in courts, as on date and the measures taken to expedite disposal of the said cases?

(a): The number of Sikhs killed during 1984 Riots was 2733 as mentioned in Ahuja Committee’s Report.

(b) to (c): Data regarding cases pending in various courts of the country is not centrally maintained. This Ministry is, however, concerned directly with Delhi. In Delhi, 650 cases were registered, in which 3163 persons were arrested. Out of this 442 persons were convicted, 2706 persons were acquitted and 15 accused persons (02 cases) are still facing trial.
