(a) whether a large contingent of officials and NGOs from the country attended the World Summit at Johannesberg recently;
(b) if so, the details thereof including source of funding of the NGOs;
(c) whether there was any coordination amongst the officials and NGOs and any other private delegations from India; and
(d) if so, the extent thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b): The list containing names of the members of the official Indian Delegation including NGOs to the World Summit on Sustainable Development is at Annexure I. In addition to the members of official Indian delegation, services of a number of diplomats and other officers (Annexure II) were utilized to assist the Indian Delegation during the WSSD. All the members of the delegation including NGOs were funded by the Government of India.
(c) & (d): During the Summit, interaction was carried out with the NGOs on all the issues under negotiations. This close interaction helped the Delegation in coordinating Indian position on various cross-sectoral issues.
