Question : Adopting of Senior Citizen by AIIMS

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) whether AIIMS, Delhi has adopted 50 old persons (senior citizens) for providing free health check up and medicines;

(b) if so, whether the Government proposes to direct the private and Government hospitals to adopt the old persons on similar lines;

(c) if so, the details in this regard; and

(d) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (c): No.

(d): Government of India has launched National Programme for Health Care of Elderly (NPHCE) during 2010-11 to address various health related problems of elderly. The NPHCE envisages establishment of Department of Geriatric Centre in identified medical institutions as Regional Geriatric Centres for different regions of the country and to provide dedicated health facilities for elderly in District Hospitals, Community Health Centres, Primary Health Centres and Sub Centres..
