Question : PENSION AND HEALTH INSURANCE FOR FARMERS



(a) whether representations have been received from various quarters including farmers` unions in regard to pension and health insurance for farmers in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto;

(c) whether the Government proposes to implement any pension and health insurance scheme for old aged farmers in the country; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE (SHRI MOHANBHAI KUNDARIA)

(a) to (d): Based on popular demand, Government is already implementing various social security schemes, whereas Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana for providing insurance benefit in case of death for rural landless households; Janashree Bima Yojana for persons Below Poverty Line (BPL) and marginally above poverty line and who are the members of the identified 45 occupational/vocational groups; Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) for BPL families in unorganized sector for providing health insurance to BPL families and Swalamban Yojana on contributory basis for unorganized sector workers to build up their pension wealth under New Pension Scheme; Personal Accident Insurance of account holders under Prime Minister’s Jan-Dhan Yojana; Atal Pension Yojana for those who are not members of any statutory social security scheme; and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana for the age group to 18 to 70 years with bank account etc.

All these schemes are also applicable to farmers fulfilling the eligibility criterion of the respective scheme.
