Question : Gas Pipeline Network

(a) whether the Government proposes to expand the natural gas pipeline lengths across the country and develop additional 13,105 km. gas pipelines as part of National Gas Grid and to increase the availability of natural gas across the country and if so, the details thereof;
(b) the details of States which are having a natural gas pipeline connectivity;
(c) whether there is any proposal with the Government to connect Hyderabad to Bidar pipeline connectivity and if so, the details thereof along with the present status of the same;
(d) the existing geographical area and population covered under the current City Gas Distribution (CGD) network;
(e) the status of projects currently underway/pending under the National Gas Grid; and
(f) whether the Government is implementing Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga project for connecting gas pipeline in Eastern India and if so, the details thereof including length of pipelines completed over the last three years?

(a) & (b) The Government has envisaged to develop the National Gas Grid. At present about 16,788 km natural gas pipeline is operational and about 14,239 km gas pipelines are being developed to increase the availability of natural gas across the country. Details of the ongoing pipelines are at Annexure.
(c) GAIL has informed that there is no proposal under consideration of GAIL to connect Hyderabad to Bidar through natural gas pipeline.
(d) With the completion of 10th CGD Bidding Round, CGD would be accessible in 228 GAs covering approximately 406 districts spread over 27 States and UTs covering approximately 70 percent of India’s population and 53 percent of its geographical area.
(e) About 14,239 km gas pipeline authorized by Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) are at various stages of execution viz. pre-project activities/laying/testing/commissioning etc.
(f) PNGRB has authorized GAIL to develop 2,655 km long Jagadishpur –Haldia –Bokaro- Dhamra Pipeline (JHBDPL) project and approximately 750 km long Barauni - Guwahati pipeline as its integral part which will connect North East region with the National Gas Grid. Under this 981.5 km pipeline has been lowered at present.
