Question : Production of Milk

(a) the details of production and per capita availability of milk in various States of the country during the last three years and current year, State-wise;

(b) whether the Government has estimated the milk production in the country for the next five years vis-à-vis the estimated demand patterns, if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the production of milk in the country is not sufficient to meet the demand of increasing population in the country;

(d) if so, the details of the milk production through milk cooperatives during the last three years and current year;

(e) whether the Government is considering to repeat the success of Anand Milk Unions Limited (AMUL), Gujarat in other States as well; and

(f) the steps being taken by the Government to increase the milk production including deployment of new technological advances and policy support?

(a) The production and per-capita availability of milk in various States of the country during the last three years and current year is enclosed as per statement given under Annexure-I & Annexure-II respectively.

(b) The milk production is estimated annually based on the results of the sample survey namely Integrated Sample Survey conducted in participation with all States/UTs. As per the survey outcomes of the period during the year 2014-15, the milk production in the country has reached 146.31 million tonnes shows an increase of over 6% annually as compared to 2013-14.

(c) The demand of the milk depends on the consumption of milk and milk products which varies across the country. The per-capita availability of milk shows a gradual increasing trend over the past several years including 2014-15. The per capita availability of milk has increased from 307 grams per day during 2013-2014 to 322 grams per day during 2014-15.

(d)Trend in milk procurement by the dairy cooperatives during the years (2012-13 to 2014-15) is given in Annexure-III.

(e) The Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries is already promoting Gujarat Model (AMUL Model) of dairy development in the country through the schemes: National Programme for Bovine Breeding and Dairy Development, National Dairy Plan-I and Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme.

(f) The Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries is implementing following schemes to increase milk production and deployment of new technological advances :
