Will the Minister of AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:
(a) the number of registered public and private institutions functioning for promoting AYUSH systems of medicines including Ayurveda in the country; and
(b) the diseases for the treatment of which Ayurvedic medicines have been developed so far?

(a): There are a total 82 (30 Ayurveda, 06 Siddha, 23 Unani, 01 Yoga Naturopathy and 22 Homoeopathy) Research Institutes functioning in the Country under the Central Research Councils set up by the Ministry of AYUSH. Besides there, 114 (61 Ayurveda, 03 Siddha, 13 Unani, 04 Naturopathy and 33 Homoeopathy) Government and 512 (280 Ayurveda, 07 Siddha, 39 Unani, 15 Naturopathy and 171 Homoeopathy) Private AYUSH Colleges are also functioning in the country, promoting AYUSH systems of medicines including Ayurveda.
(b): The Government of India has set-up an autonomous research council namely Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, which undertakes research through various activities including drug development. The Council has developed drugs for various lifestyle diseases and other diseases like Diabetes Mellitus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Mental Retardation, Bronchial Asthma, Lymphatic Filariasis, Ovarian Cancer and Migrane, and also for improving quality of life of Cancer patients.
