Question : INDO-BANGLADESH LAND BOUNDARY AGREEMENT



(a) whether the ratification of the Indo-Bangladesh Land Boundary Agreement, 1974 is essential before effecting the exchange of the Indian enclaves in Bangladesh territory and the Bangladesh enclaves in Indian territory;

(b) if so, since when this ratification work is pending with the concerned agencies of Central and State Governments and the names of these agencies; and

(c) the reasons for the inordinate delay in getting it ratified by Parliament?

(a) Yes, Sir.

(b) & (c) Ratification of the India - Bangladesh Land Boundary Agreement, 1974 will follow completion of the demarcation of the boundary between India and Bangladesh. The demarcation of about 6.5 kms of the India-Bangladesh land boundary is yet to be completed. The Government propose to complete the task of demarcation of the boundary with Bangladesh with the cooperation of the concerned State Governments. The Government of India is committed to an early settlement of all boundary-related matters with Bangladesh.
