(a) As of January 2022, the total number of funded Atal Tinkering Labs are 9,606, out of which 503 are in Rajasthan state.
The details of schools, state-wise and year-wise, both Government and private is placed as Annexure A.
The list of 503 funded schools of Rajasthan, district-wise, year-wise, both private and Government is placed as Annexure B.
(b) Each school is sanctioned Grant in Aid of Rs. 20,00,000/- (Rupees Twenty Lakhs Only) over a period of five years as establishment and operational cost. Out of the total amount, grant in aid of Rs. 12,00,000/- (Rupees Twelve Lakhs Only) is given as the first tranche as establishment and operational cost, strictly subject to fulfilling the compliance process. Subsequent tranches of INR 2 lakhs each is given in next four years as operations and maintenance cost.
Funds of Rs. 12,00,000 as first tranche have been disbursed to a total of 9,606 schools till date for setting up of Atal Tinkering Labs, amounting to INR 1152.72 crores, out of which INR 60.36 crores have been disbursed for Atal Tinkering Lab in Rajasthan state for 503 schools.
Funds of Rs. 2,00,000 as subsequent tranche have been disbursed to a total of 978 schools till date, amounting to INR 19.56 crores, out of which INR 86 lakhs have been disbursed for Atal Tinkering Lab in Rajasthan state for 43 schools. The details of funds disbursed year-wise and state-wise is placed as Annexure A.
(c) There are no specific funds earmarked exclusively for Atal Tinkering Labs. The amount of budget allocated by Central Government to Atal Innovation Mission is for all the programs under the Mission including Atal Tinkering Labs. The schools are funded for setting up ATLs as per the availability of budgets.
(d) Atal Innovation Mission has been mandated to set up 10,000 Atal Tinkering Laboratories in schools across the country, out of which 9,606 have already been funded. The remaining schools, out of 10,000 mandated schools, are undergoing the compliance process in terms of laid down guidelines for setting up of Atal Tinkering Laboratories and shall be funded on first come first serve basis as per fulfilment of compliance.
(e) The number of schools funded to set up Atal Tinkering Labs post March 2020 is 1922. As of now, there is no specialised auditory mechanism set up by Government to review the functioning of these 1922 Atal Tinkering Labs. However, AIM engages and monitors the schools through online dashboard and reviews them based on ATL guidelines. AIM is in constant communication with the schools to ensure that adequate activities and workshops are carried out, issues are resolved, ATLs remain operational, to provide best experience for the students of the ATL schools.
(f) & (g) Yes, the ATL initiative is on a roadmap to successfully completing its mandate along with benefitting the larger community of school students. Out of 10,000 mandated number of ATL establishment, 9,606 have already been funded and remaining schools shall be funded subject to availability of funds and compliance checks. ATL conducts round the year events and challenges that provides a platform for young students to develop the innovative mindset and showcase their talent. One such example is the ATL Marathon which is Atal Innovation Mission’s flagship innovation challenge, where schools identify community problems of their choice and develop innovative solutions in the form of working prototypes. More than 75 lakhs students are actively engaged in ATLs as per latest dashboard data. Several projects have been created by ATL students which showcase that Atal Tinkering Labs are successful to foster curiosity, creativity, and imagination in young minds. More than 12 lakhs innovation projects created by ATL students thus far.
