Question : PEOPLE RESIDING ALONG INDO-NEPAL BORDER



(a) whether the Government are aware that a large number of people residing in villages of Indo-Nepal border are enjoying citizenship of both the countries;

(b) if so, whether the people in some villages which are in Nepal near the Indo-Nepal border are also enjoying Indian citizenship;

(c) if so, the facts and details thereof; and

(d) the action plan envisaged to check the entry of such Nepalese citizens into the country?

(a) to (c): No, Sir.

(d): There is free movement of people and goods across the India-Nepal Border. There exists between the two countries a bilateral mechanism on effective border management. A joint working group reviews the situation regularly and takes appropriate steps, as are required to prevent the entry of undesirable elements into each other`s territory and to maintain peace and security along the border.
