Question : Assessment of Performance of SSC

(a) whether the Government has conducted an assessment of the performance of the Staff Selection Commission during the last five years;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) if not, whether the Government has taken note of the regular delays in release of marks, answer keys, merit list, appointment letters and the arbitrary change in criteria of Tier-II examination;
(d) whether the Government conducts any audit of recruitment commissions’ performance; and
(e) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (e): The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts its examinations as per its calendar and makes concerted efforts to ensure that the process is completed as per schedule and in a time bound manner.

For the smooth conduct of examinations and to fully achieve the objective of merit based selection, the commission constantly reviews and reforms the examination process and procedures, wherever required. New initiatives are also taken to bring about maximum efficiency and credibility in the examination process. An important initiative has been taken for a swift and comprehensive migration from the Optical Marks Reader (OMR) based mode to the Computer Based Mode (CBM) for conducting Objective Type Multiple Choice Examinations. The examinations for recruitment to Selection Posts, which were earlier made through interviews, are also now conducted in the CBM.

Normally marks, answer key and merit list are released by SSC without delay and all stages of examinations are conducted/ completed strictly in accordance with the examination calendar. However, exams had to be postponed during the two peak spells of COVID between March-October, 2020 and April-July, 2021.
