Question : THERMAL POWER PLANTS IN ORISSA



(a) whether the Coal India Ltd. in joint venture with the Neyveli Lignite Corporation has any proposal to set up Thermal Power Plants in the country especially in Orissa;

(b) if so, the details thereof, location - wise ; and

(c) the time by which these plants are proposed to be made operational?

(a) Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd (NLC) has proposed to set up a 2000 MW Coal based Thermal Power Plant in Hirma Village, Jharsuguda District, Orissa.There is a proposal under consideration to form a Joint Venture Company between Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd (NLC) & Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited for implementation of both the mine and power projects.The proposal is yet to be finalized.

(b) The mine with a capacity of 15 million tonne per annum will be in Jharsuguda and Sambalpur districts of Orissa.The power station of 2000 MW will be set up in Jharusuguda district of Orissa.

(c) Commissioning of the power project will take 48 months from the date of Government of India sanction.
