Question : Restoration of Shalimar Pavillion

(a) whether the Government is planning to restore the glory of Shalimar Pavillion situated in Jammu & Kashmir;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) if not, the reasons therefor;
(d) whether any foreign country is supporting the upgradation process; and
(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c ): Yes, Madam. As informed by State Government of Jammu and Kashmir, maintenance/restoration is a continuous process undertaken by the Government. Restoration of different structures like Hamams, water channels, etc. have largely been undertaken incurring an expenditure of Rs.358.84 Lakh.

(d) & (e): Presently no foreign country is supporting the process of upgradation of Shalimar garden. However, the INTACH Kashmir Chapter carried some restoration works of Paper Machie Panels in the Black Pavillion (Dewan-i-Khas) with financial assistance in Indian currency equivalent to 31,358 Euros received from Embassy of Germany, New Delhi out of their Cultural Grants.
