(a) whether there is an unnecessary delay in the construction of Door-Darshan
Kendra–II at Mandi House New Delhi;
(b) if so, the details thereof alongwith time and cost overrun;
(c) the reasons therefor; and
(d) the action taken for an early construction of the project ?

(a) to (d): Prasar Bharati has informed that there has been delay in the construction of
Doordarshan Bhawan (Phase-II) building, due to failure on the part of the construction
agency. Consequently, earlier contract for civil works was rescinded and fresh contract
for the completion of balance works has been awarded in May, 2001. While the project
was originally targeted for completion by March 1999, it is now expected to be
completed by 2002-2003. Prasar Bharati does not anticipate any over-run of the costs
approved in 1994, at present. Prasar Bharati is taking all possible steps to have the
project completed by the end of 2002-2003.
